Mets expert Max Scherzer will make a small time recovery start for Double-A Binghamton.
The excursion against the Hartford Yard Goa
ts was pushed back a day from Tuesday,
yet New York supervisor Buck Showalter says
there's been no difficulty
in Scherzer's recuperation from a stressed
diagonal.
Scherzer will pitch on seven days off rest
after his first
recovery start with the Rumble Ponies on Ju
ne 21.
"There's not an obvious explanation to rush
it," Showalter said. "We won't commit that error."
A three-time Cy Young Award champ, the 37-y
ear-old Scherzer
is 5-1 with a 2.54 ERA in eight beginnings
during his most memorable
season with the Mets. He's been out since M
ay 18.
The NL East pioneers, in the interim, face
Astros expert Justin Verlander (9-3, 2.22).
He'll pitch against the Mets interestingly
starting around 2016 and at Citi Field
interestingly starting around 2010. He'll go against Taijuan Walker (6-2, 3.03).
